Plum Magazine Essay Contest Official Rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Contest begins November 2, 2006 @ 12:01 AM Eastern Time (ET) and ends Nov. 1, 2007 @ 11:59 PM ET.
HOW TO ENTER: All entries shall not exceed 500 words. All submissions must include your name, daytime phone number, address, and e-mail address (optional). You may enter either via printed submission or electronic submission. 1) E-Mail: Send your submission in the body of an e-mail to: essays@plummagazine.com. Please do not send attachments, as they will not be opened. E-mailed essays must be submitted by Nov. 1, 2007 @ 11:59 ET. 2) Mail: Entries should be submitted on 8.5 inch by11 inch paper, typed and double-spaced. Each entry shall have a border of at least 1 inch on all sides. Send your submission in a regular sized business envelope to: Plum Magazine Essay Contest, 276 Fifth Avenue, Ste 302, New York, NY 10001. Limit one entry per person/household/e-mail address, regardless of entry method. All mailed entries must be postmarked by Nov. 1, 2007 and received by Nov. 10, 2007.
ELIGIBILITY: Participation is limited to individuals who are legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and are at least 18 years of age as of the start date of the promotion. Employees, directors, immediate families (spouses, children, household members) of Plum Magazine, their parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, and others involved in this promotion are not eligible.
PRIZE: There will be one (1) Grand Prize Winner who will receive a photo session - in the comfort of winner’s own home - with famed portrait photographer Jennifer Loomis. Prize includes an 11 x 14 print of your choice and has an ARV (Approximate Retail Value) of $2500. No substitution or transfer of this prize will be permitted, except at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. Winner is solely responsible for any federal, state, or local taxes on prize, if applicable. Odds of winning will depend on the total number of eligible entries received.
JUDGING: Essays will be judged and selected, from all eligible entries received, based on ranking of highest overall scores using the following criteria: (a) creativity (33%), (b) originality (33%), and (c) relevance to theme (34%). In the event of a tie, the “relevance to theme” criteria will be used to determine the winner. The decisions of the Sponsor, on all matters relating to this Contest, are final and binding. Grand Prize Winner will be selected on/about Dec. 1, 2007. Winner will be notified by telephone, mail or e-mail. If Sponsor cannot contact a potential winner within seven (7) days or if the prize-winning notification or a prize is returned as undeliverable, the prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate winner.
CONTEST TERMS & CONDITIONS: Upon receipt, all submissions become the property of Groundbreak Publishing, Inc., its successors and/or assigns (collectively, “GPI”), and may be used, or not used, by GPI as GPI sees fit, in any and all media, now known or hereafter developed, without limitation of any kind, including any limitation as to time, territory or medium, and may be copyrighted, or otherwise protected at law, by GPI, all at GPI’s sole discretion. Accordingly, no submission will be returned. Upon receipt, all submissions will be reviewed by the judge or judges selected by GPI and all decisions of the judge(s) shall be final and binding. By submitting an essay for review and selection by GPI in connection with the within contest, each individual submitting same irrevocably represents and warrants to GPI that the entry is entirely her or his own, original work, that it contains no material which may be considered to be defamatory, or may invade another’s privacy or other proprietary rights, or holds another individual, or product, up to ridicule, and that the entry requires no further clearance for legal or
other purposes prior to its use as contemplated by GPI. By submitting the essay for consideration by GPI as contemplated herein, the submitter irrevocably for herself, or himself, or their heirs or successors, releases and holds harmless GPI, its officers, employees, agents and directors, from and against any and all claims the submitter, or its successors, may have against GPI arising from GPI’s use of any entry, material or information contained related to or contained therein, or otherwise, in connection with the subject contest or GPI’s use or exploitation of submitted materials, data or information.
Grand Prize Winner will be required to sign and return an executed Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release within 10 days of receipt of notification, or the prize may be forfeited and another winner selected. Return of any prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and an alternate winner selected. Winner agrees that the Sponsor, their affiliates, and their agencies and employees shall not be liable for injury, loss or damage of any kind resulting from participating in this promotion or from the acceptance or use of any prize awarded. Winner consents to the use of their name, photo, and likeness for advertising and promotional purposes for no additional compensation (except residents of TN). All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. By entering, entrant gives Sponsor the rights to utilize submitted essays and entrant names in Sponsor’s future marketing and promotional efforts without any further compensation or release. Sponsor is not responsible for incomplete, lost, late, damaged, illegible, misdirected, delayed or postage due entries/mail, nor for technical hardware or software failures of any kind, lost/unavailable network connections, or failed/incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmission, which may limit a user’s ability to participate.
WINNER’S LIST: To receive written confirmation of the Grand Prize Winner, mail a self addressed stamped envelope to: Plum Magazine Essay Contest, Winner Confirmation Request, 276 Fifth Avenue, Ste 302, New York, NY 10001. Requests must be received by Dec. 30, 2007.
